Take the calendar off the noise. It isn't over on Tuesday — that's when nominations close. The leadership settles Friday, Number 10 changes hands around the 20th. Know the real dates so "it's done" talk doesn't move you before it is.

Write down the one question you'd put to him. Nobody in the process has to ask the new Prime Minister anything about the future of work. You can't fix that — but you can decide, now, what you'd want answered, so you notice whether it ever is.

Then take the afternoon. Give the tennis, or the match tonight, your whole attention on purpose. The argument underneath this whole paper is about what that time is worth. Spending some of it deliberately is a reasonable place to start.
