I. Ask what didn't make the front page. When one story owns the week — a resignation, a heatwave, a match — the useful habit is to ask what slipped by underneath it. This week, it was the news about work.
II. Know what your workplace pension actually owns. Most default funds track the world's biggest companies, which means American tech. You can check your fund's holdings in minutes — not to do anything, just to see where your stake really sits.
III. Treat Wednesday as a stress test — for the grid and for the people in it. The 38°C forecast strains power and water as well as bodies. Plan the hot hours, and check on anyone who finds heat hard.
