Three moves for a Wednesday.

Don't act on the petrol headline. Oil has fallen to a three-month low, but the price at the pump and on your energy bill follows weeks behind it, and only if the ceasefire holds. If a fuel or energy decision is pending, get current quotes rather than assume the relief has landed.

Mark noon tomorrow. The Bank of England's rate decision and a fresh set of jobs figures both arrive on Thursday 18 June. If you are near the end of a fixed mortgage, this is the week to check your dates and ask your broker what a hold would mean for you, not to guess at it.

Look down your own ladder. The hiring squeeze is reaching the bottom rungs first. If you manage a team, notice which junior roles have quietly gone unfilled before the next budget round decides they were never needed.
